CBD Oil

CBD is short for cannabidiol, which is a chemical that is found in the cannabis plant, along with THC, a psychoactive substance. CBD is sold in a variety of forms, some including: oil, topical products, pills, liquid for smoking/vaping, edibles, gummies, and more.

Does CBD have any medical benefits?

The cannabis plant has been used for pain relief for centuries, in many traditional medicine practices. However it was only more recently that proper studies have been conducted into how beneficial and effective cannabis, and the chemical CBD really is to treat things like chronic or acute pain. Through these studies, it has been shown that CBD may help to reduce things like chronic pain, which can often be debilitating to people, preventing them from living a full life. Therefore it can be said that CBD can provide medical benefits for some individuals. However, it has not been proven to be particularly beneficial for those with arthritis.

Can CBD Help Manage Diabetes

CBD Oil for Epilepsy and Seizures?
The only FDA approved use of CBD is for reducing the frequency and intensity of epileptic seizures. The drug Epidiolex is available as a treatment for two forms of epileptic syndromes, and the myriad scientific research behind it shows that the use of CBD oil for epilepsy is safe and effective. Can CBD Help Relief Arthritis?

While there are laboratory studies suggesting CBD might be a promising approach, and animal studies showing anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects, well-designed studies demonstrating compelling evidence that CBD is safe and effective for chronic arthritis pain in humans do not exist. A randomized trial of topical CBD for osteoarthritis and psoriatic arthritis found that CBD was no more effective than placebo. Small, short-term or survey-based studies suggest that CBD is potentially helpful for arthritis pain, but these are far from convincing. One of the largest reviews examined the health effects of cannabis and CBD, and concluded that there is “substantial evidence that cannabis is an effective treatment for chronic pain in adults.” But there was no specific conclusion regarding CBD and arthritis pain, presumably because definitive studies were not available.

How much CBD should I use?

When preparing to take a liquid form, be aware that the CBD extract is mixed with a carrier oil, so there are two measures to know: the amount of the liquid product to take (the dose) and the amount of CBD in each dose. (For example, if your product contains 50 milligrams of CBD per milliliter, taking 0.5 milliliters would be a dose of 25 milligrams.)
Go low and slow. Start with just a few milligrams of CBD in sublingual form twice a day. If relief is inadequate after three or four days, increase the dose by that same amount. If needed, go up in small increments over several weeks. If you find relief, continue taking that dose twice or more daily to maintain a stable level of CBD in your body.
If CBD alone doesn’t work and you are in a state where medical or recreational marijuana is legal, talk to your doctor about taking CBD with a very low-dose THC product. Be aware that THC, even at low levels, may get you high, creating cognitive, motor and balance issues. Try THC-containing products at home or at night first, so you can sleep off any unwanted effects.
After several weeks, if you don’t find relief with CBD alone or with a combination of CBD and very low THC, CBD may not be right for you.
If you experience any unwanted side effects when using a CBD product, immediately discontinue use and inform your doctor.
